Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

1. Overview

Claudel is a desktop application developed by Jason Jeong. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data Claudel collects and how it is handled.

2. Data We Collect

Claudel is designed with privacy in mind:

  • Local-first: All your data (sessions, settings, project files) is stored locally on your device in ~/.claudel/
  • No cloud sync: Claudel does not upload your code, conversations, or project data to any server
  • No user accounts: Claudel does not require registration or sign-in
  • No telemetry by default: Claudel does not collect usage analytics unless you opt in

3. Claude Code Integration

  • Claudel acts as a GUI wrapper for Claude Code CLI (by Anthropic)
  • When you use Claude Code through Claudel, your prompts and code are sent to Anthropic's API according to Anthropic's privacy policy
  • Claudel does not intercept, store, or modify data flowing between Claude Code and Anthropic's servers
  • Please review Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy for details on how your data is handled by Claude

4. Skill Marketplace

  • When you browse the Skill Marketplace, Claudel fetches skill metadata from our servers
  • We log basic request metadata (IP address, timestamp) for rate limiting and abuse prevention
  • Installed skills are stored locally on your device
  • We do not track which skills you install or use

5. Crash Reports & Analytics (Opt-in)

If you opt in to crash reporting, anonymized crash data may be sent to help us improve Claudel.

This includes:

  • App version
  • OS version
  • Crash stack trace

This does NOT include:

  • Your code
  • Conversations
  • File contents
  • Personal information

You can opt out at any time in Settings.

6. Third-Party Services

  • Claudel website (claudel.app) may use basic analytics to measure traffic
  • Claudel desktop app does not embed third-party tracking scripts

7. Data Security

  • All local data is stored with your system's standard file permissions
  • Claudel does not implement its own encryption layer; it relies on macOS system security
  • We recommend enabling FileVault for full disk encryption

8. Your Rights

  • You can delete all Claudel data by removing the ~/.claudel/ directory
  • You can uninstall Claudel at any time by dragging it to Trash
  • No data persists on our servers after deletion

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or on our website.
